the Italian CASH

giuseppe penone's work is really interesting. i found a piece were giuseppe carved an image of a tree inside of an actual tree trunk. having worked with balsa wood, i couldn't imagine working with something of that proportion without having it snap in half or something. the artwork that giuseppe made that i wanted to share was the piece titled, "Idee di pietra" which i think means Ideas stone. i really like this piece because its an easy idea that obviously has alot of meaning in connection to it. the placement of the rock really provides for an uneasy feeling. i think that when an artist makes something that doesn't appear to have take that much time, the viewer gets more of a "why didn't i think of that" moment. i just think that simplicity of a given piece can connect to greater meaning and thats what i feel when i look at this.
